OOTD: Almost Chanel

Hope you all had a totally spoiled and indulgent long Easter weekend! I love that with holidays comes family meetups, parties, shenanigans and of course- plenty of excuses to get dressed up! On Friday afternoon Ben and I met up with some of his mates in town and it was just that little bit cool out, perfect for my new vintage-Chanel look jacket!

Jacket: c/o BooHoo plus size
Top: City Chic
Skirt: Cut for Evans
Shoes: Target
Mini Bag: Furla
Sunnies: Thrifted 1970's awesomeness

I've come to the conclusion that I don't wear enough weight. I'm not going to lie, I can still hear some of that 'fat-girls-don't-look-good-in-white' stigma in my head. Stupid but true. But this BooHoo jacket has changed me! I felt classic, feminine and sexy wearing this beauty. I adore the contrast trim and structured styling, it really is so very retro Chanel!

I can't resist a shoe sale and sad but true, these shoes are too big. I picked them up for some ridiculous bargain price at Target, telling myself I'll just tighten them up and it will all be fine. But no, after an hour in them my feet were flopping around stupidly and I was kicking myself for giving into their gorgeousness. They have such a cute little heel that is (normally, you know, when you buy the right size) easy to wear. But alas, they did end up in my hand rather than on my feet pretty quickly. But damn they look pretty!

OOTD: Monochrome and red

Sometimes you just need to rock a little bit of monochrome. You've probably noticed already, but I love colour. I very rarely wear dominating black and white- but there is a definite timelessness to it that I must admit, is gorgeous.

Blouse: Simply Be
Skirt: ASOS Curve
Necklace: Diva
Jellys: Jelly Beans
Sunnies: eQuip
Bag: a thrift shop find

We got home from Melbourne in the wee hours of Sunday morning, so getting dolled up was not on my proirity list today. I threw on this skirt because its light and breezy for our Aussie summer and this gorgeous blouse was the last clean thing in my (still not) unpacked suitcase. The red accessories I added when I saw how 'black-and-white' I looked. I couldn't resist adding at least a little colour. I loved the way this outfit came together even if was a total fluke- sometimes the chicest outfits are the ones you don't need to think about- it all just falls together naturally.

The print on this peplum top seriously makes me happy. I always feel flirty and cute when I wear this top. It must be the cute little birdies-  I'd love to find some pink flamingos for my backyard! The funky little bag was a $2 op-shop find- bargain! You just can't beat the real 'thunnkk' the clip makes when you snap the clasp together. Its hard to find such great quality these days.

How are you dressing to survive this heat?

Do you wear monochrome often?

Aussie Curves: Homemade

I'm only just starting to experiment with my own DIY skills. I love hearing about people who buy a dress and cut it down to a skirt or turn an old jacket into a handbag (and if you are looking for an AWESOME DIY blogger, check out Trees here). The extent of my current DIY portfolio is sewing a button on or patching a hole. So, when Suger offered to make me something, I was pretty stoked about it. I guess it also means I've technically cheated, but hey, its pretty cool to be able to say there is only one other like it! (Check out Melissa's matching top here!)

Top: DIY'd by Melissa from Suger Coat It
Blazer: City Chic
Tights: Lilly and Lou
Clutch: Ruby and Kit
Boots: Unsure, picked up at a clothes swap!

And how totally rad did the iron on transfer look! I'm glad it turned out so rad as well, Suger's iron-burnt fingers need to know they are numb for a reason!

I've been dying for it to be cold enough for boots and the nights are definitely boot worthy at the moment. Winter fashion is so much fun. You can add boots and a blazer to anything to take it to the next level. I'm such a layer whore, it almost makes me want to move somewhere less tropical.

This clutch is on high rotation at the moment.I'm trying to consolidate by handbag usage down to this one only. I got myself into a sticky situation when I couldn't find my private health card last week. Because I switch and change my handbags so often, I often remove my eftpos and ID card and just leave everything else in there ( an awful habit I know, I keep buying chapsticks because I lose them in changeovers!). So my health cards were in the wrong clutch- epic inconvenience!

I added in this last photo that Ben took before I was ready. This outfit is so comfy. I'm basically wearing my PJ's out on the town!

Do you DIY???

Fatshion Faceoff: Mary Jane shoes

So I'm not going to lie. My favourite pair of Mary Jane shoes are my Crocs. I've never hidden my obsession with Crocs and I seriously cannot rave about them enough. When I'm not blogging, my 'real-world' job is nursing. That means twelve hour shifts on your feet, standing during procedures, rocking a baby to sleep and running around the wards. Couple that with a size 22 body and that's a whooooole lot of pressure on two little tootsies. They have literally saved my aching feet from worlds of pain. And then, once they got a little less ugly (expanding the range away from the original clog like shape was a master move for Crocs!), I was quick to adapt them into my everyday wardrobe as well!

Blazer and skirt: Torrid
Peplum: City Chic
Tights: We Love Colors
Clutch: Bijoux Terner
Mary Janes: Crocs
Ring: Thrifted

I really like the shape of a mary jane shoe. The little extra strap always reminds me of wearing shoes when I was little. I swear the only type of shoes I had were jiffies or MJ style flats!

Obviously I know they still aren't the best looking shoe around, but when I'm the last left standing on the dancefloor at 3am, I'm extremely happy I'm not sitting in the corner with you and your mega heels! And of course I have to endure lots of giggling from my girlfriends when they post e-cards like this on my Facebook wall! ;)

How totally rad is this Torrid blazer! I'm loving it to bits! I couldn't resist adding the red and anchor for a dressed up nautical vibe. The ring was the coolest find at a vintage fair. It was in a $1 box and fit perfectly on to my middle and forth finger- it was meant to be!

And seriously, admit it, those shoes are still cute! Comfy and cute- the perfect shoe! :-D

Check out all the FF babes this week!

Fatshion Faceoff: Animal brooch

I can't resist a cute little vintage brooch. I remember my Nanna wearing them when I was growing up, she would have the most awesome sparkly, crystal brooch that she would put on last before heading out the door and when she got home it was straight off and back on to her dressing table with the rest of them! I always thought they were such a beautiful addition to her outfits.

Tunic: 17 Sundays
Tights: Lily and Lou
Scarf: ASOS
Blazer: City Chic
Brogues: Rivers
Handbag: some random shop
Brooch: Vintage thrifted
I can't decide what this animal is. Its almost like a dragon, a griffin and a lion. I guess I liked it mostly because it reminded me of the Griffindor logo in Harry Potter! Anyway, it was a totally rad $4 bargain and I adore the way it looks on this stripey jacket!

I can't remember where I picked up this bag but its become a wardrobe regular. I love the pop of colour and the little quirky detail it brings to an outfit. And need I even mention that TOTAL AWESOME that is my new moustache scarf- its pretty much the coolest thing in the world.

Check out all my ladies with their brooches this week!

Fatshion Faceoff: Button-up blouse with necklace

I think that if you have been here more than twice, you've probably already noticed my serious statement necklace addiction (hmmm.... shall I just add that to the collection of my fashion addictions?). This particular eye catching beauty is one of my FFFWeek necklaces- It's going to be neatly packed and then styled up for our NYC adventure!

Necklace: eQuip
Blouse: ASOS Curve
Skirt: ASOS Curve
Clutch: Thrifted
Flats: Rubi Shoes

This blouse is quite long, I couldn't imagine myself wearing it totally out and relaxed. In the past, I've tucked it into a high waisted skirt to get rid of some of that extra material. But with the soft jersey of this skirt, it was making the material sit awkwardly and all lumpy. I think tying it at the waist instead ended up looking awesome. And super funky with the turquoise pops of colour!

On a side (makeup) note, I've just gotten into lipsticks. I've been playing around with reds for the two weeks or so and am working myself up to trying different bold colours. But I still can't seem to make them last properly on my top lip!!! Even with stains rather than a stick. Any lip-colour secrets????!?

I actually was realllllllyy looking forward to this post- all the FF ladies have awesome necklace collections!! I can't wait to see which ones they have chosen!
