Fatshion Faceoff: Shoe boots

I haven't worn these shoe boots in such a long time. In fact, I had to unearth them from a mighty pile of shoes and stored clothes to find them! I remember when I got them I loved the hell out of them (is that even a positive thing to say?! Interpret it as lots of loving)! I hunted for some like this for months! Imagine a female version of David Attenborough stalking the shoe shops. Once found, I wore these babies as often as I could. Yet after a few hours in this outfit I remember why I had reluctantly stored them- epic ball of foot pain! As hot as they are, my feet (I almost wrote 'balls' HA!) are killing me. I either need to invest in some serious gel pads or keep up the search for the perfect pair of shoe boots!

Jacket: Harlow
Top: Kmart
Jeans: Crossroads
Boots: Kmart
Necklace: City Chic
Bracelet: Torrid

I'm obsessed with this Harlow jacket. It's the perfect weight for changing seasons. I'm sure you have heard me complain about the uncharacteristically high temperatures we are having; well with that is coming some chilly evenings. This jacket is lightweight enough that I can carry it with me and wear open in the sun, yet warm enough that I'm ready for that sudden mercury drop. And seriously, it's covered in sequins. Does it get any better than that?!

Floral cut offs are rocking my world right now. I would never have been caught dead in these a few years ago, yet these have barely left my legs in the last few months! Crossroads have some of the cutest little pants and often have awesome sales-  you can pick up pieces for a steal if you keep an eye on the stores!

As always, don't forget to see what all the ladies are up to this week!

Aussie Curves: Festival

I love festivals. I love the energy, the sun, the heat, the crowds, the crap food, the slurpee cocktails and of course- seeing some of my favourite bands rocking it out in my home town ( or even just in my country- its worth checking out the interstate lineup- sometimes bands only play certain states and its worth the drive over the border!).

Dress: City Chic
Tights and side bag: Kmart
Jellies: Jelly Beans
Necklace: Lovisa (?)

I always dress comfy for festivals, its going to be a long day and I don't want to get half way through and want to leave because I'm uncomfortable/too hot/got chafe/overly sunburnt. I love this little City Chic dress just for those reasons- its comfy, cute and I can layer it up with some tights and a flowy jacket when the sun hits heavily.

I think one of the most important things I've learned about festivals is that its pretty likely something you have will get lost or damaged. I make sure that whatever I'm wearing is either replaceable or already well loved. Three years ago I lost the locket and the pendant off of my favourite necklace in a mosh pit, I was devastated. I literally made everyone around me move to help me look for them. They were never found and the locket I wear now ( my everyday necklace) is a replacement. Broke my heart to lose it- so I learnt the hard way! This necklace is a dress jewelry chepo and has been to The Big Pineapple Festival and the Big Day Out festival with me already! Its gone the distance so I like to think of it as my lucky festival necklace!

I've found that jellies are awesome festival shoes! I'm not much of a gumboot wearer and my feet get hot and annoying in sneakers so jellies are my perfect in between. They are easy to wash off if they get muddy, easy to slip on and off if I get dirt in them and airy enough that they don't get hot. They also provide surprisingly good foot and toe protection. I swear the layered rubber/plastic pieces turn to stone when you get trampled on! Plus, the colours are super cute! If Ben loses me in a mosh he can find me by looking for my bright shoes!

I've read through a few of the AC babes posts and it sounds like some of them have never been to a festival before. So for newbies or people keen to get into it all, I've written out some of the sneaky hard-learnt tips I've discovered over the years!

My festival survival guide:

- DON'T wear a backpack. If the mosh pit is a separate area you have to get into, the bouncers won't let you in with it and you'll miss out on front row awesomeness. Or, if its an open festival and the mosh is a free for all, you are that dick who hits everyone with their bag. And it takes up a place another person could be standing in. Don't do it man.

- DO carry just the basics with you. I'm talking eftpos card, ID, cash, sunscreen, water. As little as you can get away with.

- DO wear lots of sunscreen and re-apply during the day- its easy to sweat it off while getting your grove on!

- DON'T wear makeup- ain't no-body got time for that!!

- DO keep yourself hydrated. Use the free water stations and match your cocktail slurpee with a water as well (or at least 2 cocktails to one water)

- DO wear clothes and sunnies you feel genuinely comfortable in. You'll be wearing them for 8-16 hours, so I'm talking light and easy to wear clothes. And something to stop chub-rub!

- DO wear comfy shoes that protect your toes. You are going to get stepped on. A lot. Leave your thongs at home, unless you have a spare toe you are keen to lose.

- DON'T push to the front if your not fussed about a certain band. There are other people there who are really into them and this may be their only chance to see them.

- DO have a totally awesome time! Be free, crazy, wild and rock it out!

Do you like festivals?

OOTD: Afternoon in the city

I wish I had endless funds and could just lunch and sip cocktails all day. Heck, who probably doesn't wish that, at least for a little while?! The beginning of the weekend (or whatever day is the start of 'my weekend'- shift working means I could be working any days, anytime!) is the best: I always love that feeling of hitting the town knowing you have the next couple of days off. I can drink what I want, lunch and sip cocktails, stay up as late as I want and I don't even have to wash my hair if I don't feel like it (TMI anyone??)!! That first night off always has the best feeling of freedom with it! And it's often the one we end up properly hitting the town on.

This particular outfit was worn on the beginning of a very rad weekend off and a night out with some of my girlfriends!

Pants: Harlow
Top: Lily and Lou via Best and Less
Platforms: TBA Shoes
Necklace: Stefan
Clutch: Kmart
(and since it's properly drawing some attention, the bra is from Sara)

I snapped these pictures just as we were leaving (TANGENT: How I wish my hair would stay that perfect for longer. I swear, I start the night with luscious locks and an hour or so later it looks like a lanky mop. I need to try out some new hair products!). I'm all sorts of smiley over these rad Harlow capris, the colour is such a vivid, almost acid green and purple. And they have a proper fly and button closure, something I've missed tailoring-wise since embracing the leggings as pants revolution.

I have been using this clutch like crazy lately. I'm a chronic handbag swapper, so usually swap and change regularly, but you've probably seen this beauty in my last few posts. I love the stud detailing with the basic black; I'd been in desperate need of a more versatile bag like this. There is only so many outfits a bright yellow or pink clutch can go with! And it tones down the boldness of the hot pink belt and wicked purple platforms!  Which by the way, how totally cool are those shoes?!

What's your favourite time of the week??

OOTD: 90's fashion

I've been DYING to share these Skorch magazine shots for months! I knew when the Skorch team put the call out for some 90's blogger fashion- that this was the month for me! I've always been a 90's babe at heart, give me Pearl Jam, Clueless, tamagotchis and walkmans anyday! This was my take on some Clueless inspired 90's fashion!

Skirt: City Chic
Blazer: ASOS Curve
Top: Target
Platforms: Skechers
Socks: Kmart

Admittedly during the mid 90's I was much more of a grunge, 'sneakers and flannel kind' of girl. But looking back at the fashions of the time now, I LOVE all the bright colours, platforms, preppy styles and mini skirts! I knew I wanted to wear a funky little pink suit for these photos, so I pulled one together from my wardrobe! I'm actually really stoaked with how it turned out!

I never thought I could get away with knee high socks. One of the only parts of my body I'm self-conscious about is my knees. Crazy right?! Now I'm thinking I may need to invest in some different styles!

I've been holding onto these platforms for years. I picked them up on sale at my local outlet shop, I just couldn't resist them! Pink, glitter platforms- where have you been my whole life?!

If you haven't seen this month's 90's fashion inspired Skorch magazine, you have to check it out! There are some smokin' photos of Tess Munster, Rayna Salcido and my babe Kelsey Olson, dressed in some smashing 90's styles!

What do you think of 90's fashion??

Liv Gets Crafty: Holographic bag

1) Mossman clutch, 2) Neiman Marcus clutch, 3) ASOS card holder, 4) Betts clutch, 5) New Look chain box bag

No doubt you've seen all the gorgeous holographic handbags floating around at the moment (like my top five picks here- my favourite being the Betts clutch, seriously, I'd do baaaddd things for that baby!). I've been dying to get my hands on one, but they are all so out of my budget. With a post FFFWeek credit card to wrestle and wedding bills flying in left right and center, I've had to seriously consider where every dollar goes. So, I figured I'd crafty one up myself!!!

What you'll need:

1. A bag you want to cover

2. Some contact with the print you like
3. Scissors
4. A pen (I didn't realize I would need this until after I'd started!)

Being that it was my first time covering a bag, I picked up this nice flat one from Kmart to give myself easy edges. But if you were braver than me you could DIY an old bag or choose a $2 cheapey from a thrift shop! This clutch set me back $15 and the contact was $1.50 per roll (both from Kmart). I didn't even end up using all of one, so save yourself some many and don't over buy like I did!

Measure out your cover size making sure you have enough contact to tuck into the edges.

Cut your bag shape into the contact, keeping in mind lap over space and where you want the folds to be.

Pay special attention to your corners, you don't want to run out of contact on the important places! I found that if I cut the contact at corners, it folded over more smoothly.

Circle and cut around your magnet closures so the bag will still snap shut cleanly. Don't worry if its not a perfect cut, we will fix that up later.

Now here comes the hard bit! I found that because of the odd shape of the bag, it was easier to totally remove the backing sheet and then put my bag on top.  Carefully slip off the white backing sheet while stopping the contact from folding back on itself.

Once the backing sheet was completely off, I lined up the bag with the tabs I had already cut and started folding from the bottom up!

Make sure you hold the rest of the contact tight to stop getting any air bubbles!

If you find the shape is a little off now that the bag has moved a little, snip into your tabs- you'll be happy you gave yourself extra wiggle room!

Once your main piece is all folded over, you can start to add a few extra bits to cover it completely. The great thing about the print is that you can't notice when extra pieces are added!!

Press your edges hard into the grooves of the bag and you're ready to go!!

A less than $17 holographic clutch! Hurrruugghh!!! :)
