Winter Colour

Apparently, in winter all the colour in my wardrobe disappears. I was looking at my instagram feed and marvelling at how much black I've been wearing lately. Black is so comfortable and easy in the cold and when that Mercury drops I seem to start reaching for these trusty black basics. But where's the fun in being basic right?!

Skirt and top: Society+
Jacket: BooHoo Plus
Shoes: Betts
Bag: New Look
Sunnies: Domino Dollhouse

So, could it get any more fabulous than this pastel faux fur coat?! Ben calls it my Sully jacket. Legitimately though, one of the best things about Monsters Inc. was Sully's luscious blue and purple fur. I've never wanted to smoosh something more. Watching the movie while wearing this jacket pretty much makes it a 4D experience! So yes. This coat. I adore it! Its old season BooHoo but I'm hopeful they bring out something similar later this year (if you are anyone with a bit of pull in that department, I'd love a pink version please! ;). It also happens to be incredibly warm and delicious. It really does feel like I've wrapped my doona around my shoulders and I'm wearing it to the shops.

I loved these bright Jessica Kane collection, Society+ scuba pieces. Apart from being super comfy, they come in so many different pretty colours AND have pockets! Plus they always get me lots of attention and compliments, I have them in a few colours already and the others are caaaalllliiinnnggg me. My wardrobe needs them right?!

The caged tops are so fab. It's so nice to be able to buy something so on trend and sexy like my skinny girlfriends. I always feel like a rockstar when I wear these tops. Plus Ben is a definite fan of how good they make your boobs look!

Do you wear lots of black in winter?
How do you get more colour in your wardrobe?

OOTD: Let's sparkle

At Curvy Couture Roadshow (posts coming next week!) I watched all of the fabulous fashions sashay down the runway and it rocked my world. One of my favourite standouts was Nyata. It makes me so proud to be an Aussie when I see such high fashion, original and sexy plus size designs being made. They've nailed the luxe plus-market, with gorgeous cuts and sexy detailing, I always feel amazing when I slip into one of their pieces.

Dress: c/o Nyata
Stockings: We Love Colors
Heels: Torrid
Clutch and Sunnies: New Look

I jumped at the chance to get my hands on some of their new goodies and the Biarkan Glitter certainly didn't disappoint. I love that I can wear it as a top or a dress, its easy to make it totally glitzzy or just to add some sequiny sparkle to an everyday outfit. For my first wear I went for a relaxed glam feel. With some stockings and a funky clutch, it was perfect for sunset drinks by the river. And I tell you what, I felt like a rockstar!

The comfy, relaxed fit of the dress was one of my favourite things about it. Its the best of both worlds, killer sexy lines with the eye-catching sequin detailing and the comfy cotton of your favourite t-shirt. How often do we suffer through an uncomfortable outfit because we know it looks good? Hard to admit but true. Nyata's designs have taken all that stress away, there is no compromising comfort for fashion here team!

And now for the absolute coolest thing about Nyata? I'm wearing size Amazing (24-26) annnndddd their entire collection is available in sizes 8 to 30. Knowing I can wear the same high fashion and fabulous sequins as my thin besties is awesome!! And, when they asked me where I got my dress from, I can point them in right direction without having (that sometimes embarrassing) 'uh, but it won't fit you...' conversation. Its not about size classifications, its about looking and feeling good no matter what your body shape!

Liv Gets Crafty: Holographic bag

1) Mossman clutch, 2) Neiman Marcus clutch, 3) ASOS card holder, 4) Betts clutch, 5) New Look chain box bag

No doubt you've seen all the gorgeous holographic handbags floating around at the moment (like my top five picks here- my favourite being the Betts clutch, seriously, I'd do baaaddd things for that baby!). I've been dying to get my hands on one, but they are all so out of my budget. With a post FFFWeek credit card to wrestle and wedding bills flying in left right and center, I've had to seriously consider where every dollar goes. So, I figured I'd crafty one up myself!!!

What you'll need:

1. A bag you want to cover

2. Some contact with the print you like
3. Scissors
4. A pen (I didn't realize I would need this until after I'd started!)

Being that it was my first time covering a bag, I picked up this nice flat one from Kmart to give myself easy edges. But if you were braver than me you could DIY an old bag or choose a $2 cheapey from a thrift shop! This clutch set me back $15 and the contact was $1.50 per roll (both from Kmart). I didn't even end up using all of one, so save yourself some many and don't over buy like I did!

Measure out your cover size making sure you have enough contact to tuck into the edges.

Cut your bag shape into the contact, keeping in mind lap over space and where you want the folds to be.

Pay special attention to your corners, you don't want to run out of contact on the important places! I found that if I cut the contact at corners, it folded over more smoothly.

Circle and cut around your magnet closures so the bag will still snap shut cleanly. Don't worry if its not a perfect cut, we will fix that up later.

Now here comes the hard bit! I found that because of the odd shape of the bag, it was easier to totally remove the backing sheet and then put my bag on top.  Carefully slip off the white backing sheet while stopping the contact from folding back on itself.

Once the backing sheet was completely off, I lined up the bag with the tabs I had already cut and started folding from the bottom up!

Make sure you hold the rest of the contact tight to stop getting any air bubbles!

If you find the shape is a little off now that the bag has moved a little, snip into your tabs- you'll be happy you gave yourself extra wiggle room!

Once your main piece is all folded over, you can start to add a few extra bits to cover it completely. The great thing about the print is that you can't notice when extra pieces are added!!

Press your edges hard into the grooves of the bag and you're ready to go!!

A less than $17 holographic clutch! Hurrruugghh!!! :)

Brand Spotlight: New Look

One of the biggest revelations I had with online shopping was that one site can literally be a one stop, here-is-my-entire-outfit shop. I've always been a big shopper, a bargain shopper too. If I can get it $4 cheaper by going across the road, I'm half way there before you can say 'why did the chicken?'. My first (and still favourite) one stop, bargain shop is New Look. Not only do they have a KILLER plus size range, you can go there, buy an entire outfit and still have left over change to shout the next round. Want to know what I'm talking about? Check out these outfits I've put together! (note: I've changed all the UK pounds prices to Aussie dollars!)

This is my fav of the three. Geometric pink dress with funky accessories! I love the bright pops of pink and blue with the statement necklace and classic blazer. But that dress! Its a bonafide showstopper! I have a similar one that I paid over $150 for, so to get a WHOLE OUTFIT like this for under $165 blows my mind!

You've probably noticed by now that I love mini skirts, tucked in tops and black opaque stockings. This look is pretty much my staple wardrobe. The prints and bohemian bag add a real edge to the outfit and the wedges mean I can rock it from night to day! Plus I can't resist a funky little animal shape print- the stags rock!!

My three favourite words from this outfit? Wide. Foot. Brogues. I've been DYING to get my hands on a more comfortable pair of funky brogues. They are such a rad look and if you get the right pair- are heaven to walk in! I've got a blue pair that I adore, but after an hour or so my toes are screaming- these keep my fashion self and my actual self happy! This is such an everyday chilled look, easy to pull together and still cute to wear out. And even better, getting this (I'm talking accessories and all) for under $120 and your laughing!!

When we were in the UK a few years back I decimated every New Look store we stumbled across. I always took about the whole shop into the change-room with me and ended up buying a quarter. The quality for the prices is insane- I get such great wear out of them. I constantly find myself reaching for my old favourite New Look pieces (want to see? Check me out here, here, here and here!), its actually a good thing there isn't one close by- it may get dangerous! But with cheap (and fast!) Aussie shipping, I know my new outfit is never far away!

Have your bought from New Look before??

What's your favourite outfit??

Fatshion Faceoff: Hat

I have a love hate relationship with hats. I love the way they look and hate the way they feel on my head! I'm a very picky hat person. To get into my wardrobe, a hat needs to be perfect- have a great look, a great feel and be lightweight. The magic three is a big enough call that I only have four hats to my name. This one is actually a recent purchase and a perfect three combo!

Hat: Target
Skirt: City Chic
Belt: ASOS Curve
Bag: Torrid
Stockings: We Love Colors
Wedges: Betts

I wore this funky outfit for St Patrick's Day, to our favourite local wine haunt- Watt Bar under the Powerhouse and right on the Brisbane river. I don't have a whole lot of green and I'd been dying to wear this hat, so I figured I'd go with red instead! I'm loving the way the red of the belt, hat and shoes brings out the heart print on the top.

This awesome little H.K Nerd lunch box is on high rotation at the moment. The metal and structure of it coupled with the rad shape of the hat, channels a modern vintage vibe to the outfit. Plus they are both just super rad!

I put this last piccy in here because I thought it was just to cute not to. This is my bestie Emma (also one of my bridesmaids!) tying up my shoelaces while we are at the pub- she is such a catch, I love her to bits!

Can't wait to check out all my hot-hatted Fatshion Faceoff ladies this week!

Fatshion Faceoff: Coloured Tights

This weeks Fatshion Faceoff challenge item is coloured stockings- one of my all time favourite outfit punching things to wear! If you haven't heard me raving about We Love Colors yet, you must be living on another planet. I literally cannot recommend them enough- they are without a doubt the comfiest stockings I've ever worn. Available in over fifty colours and with a size chart that caters to up to 170ks/6foot, they pretty much have everyone covered. And amongst my seemingly ever-growing collection of We Love Color's tights, is this spanking hot purple pair!

Dress and belt: New Look Inspire (belt bought separately)
Blazer: ASOS Curve
Bag and ring: eQuip
Necklace: Modcloth
Tights: We Love Colors
Flats: Crocs

Last night we went out to the Twilight Markets to stock up on fresh produce and other such mid-week market goodies. I was much more lavishly dressed than I normally would be for such an outing, but I wanted to show off a way you can wear coloured stockings without looking too 'alternative' or dressed down (both ways I tend to normally wear them!)

As you can see, I've finally had some shape cut into my hair. I've literally been growing it our for five years (from a short spiky red hair-do!) and have been waiting for the length before I cut into it. I even toyed with the idea of going back to brunette, but at the moment I'm totally loving the bangs! What do you think??

The dress is an old favourite from New Look Inspire that I picked up on our Holiday of Awesome. There is something about stripes. They are always such an eye-catching outfit maker. Couple that with the super bright tights and I'm basically walking around screaming to be looked at! I feel like the structure of the blazer balances out the attention seeking boldness of the rest of the outfit, its the perfect professional finish to an otherwise loud look (plus, I suppose me being loud in general probably doesn't help ;).

Can't wait to see all my brightly coloured stocking-ed Fatshion Faceoff babes this week!
