Aussie Curves: Colour Clash

Whenever I think about colour clashing, I always imagine a bunch of different toned colours in the same family. I was always really careful about either directly matching my colours, or wearing completely different ones- I would never wear different hues of the same one! That's so not fashionable!!! GASP!! Well, here is what I think about that these days! ;)

Dress and Blazer: Forever 21+
Earrings: Real Divas are Large (clip-ons)
Flats: Rubi
Handbag: eBay

I love all the blue hues- turquoise, navy, cerulean! Oh and then some yellow earrings. And a bright brown bag. Yes. I think that's enough colour clashing for one day! I added the blazer for a little bit more warmth on these wintery, windy days. I guess you could call it a boyfriend blazer. With a relaxed fit, plenty of arm space and the toasty feel of it, I always feel like I'm slipping into a comfy jumper rather than a structured blazer!

I'm obsessed with these earrings. Finding funky clip-ons is pretty much one of my favourite past times. And worst indulgences! The handbag was a little internet find, I wasn't sure how I would wear it but I couldn't resist!

How do you colour clash??

My Favourite: local places to buy imported clothes

On Instagram and Twitter, I get asked almost daily where I buy my clothes from, so I figure its time to do some proper My Favourite posts so I can share all these finds with you!

I thought the perfect place to start was with local importers. Apart from the obvious online shopping problems for the everyday buyer (huge shipping fees!!!), there are also some truly amazing international plus-size brands that don't yet ship to Australia (I'm looking at you eShakti and Simply Be!), this is where my favourite local importers come in. They take that huge frightening step in the middle out. There is no stress about shipping costs, items not fitting and lost-in-long transit parcels. These companies are local, ordinary people who love fashion- they aren't going to do a ridiculous mark-up price like some re-sellers and they are great at returns and try-ons.

Missmel is a Brisbane based online shop that sells an amazing range of vintage and retro inspired fashion from the USA, UK and China- even up to a size 32! She was a great support when I planned my local second hand clothing fair, A Plus Size Wardrobe, and her Facebook page is a wonderful source of body positivity and plus-size love. Amongst her brands for sale you will see SWAK, Kiyonna, Hell Bunny, IGIGI, Bettie Page and all with free standard Aussie shipping!

Also, in super exciting news, Mel is currently oversees developing her own range of MISSMEL brand clothes! I can't wait to see where her next adventure takes her!

Now this second re-seller is my absolute favourite eBay shop. Another fabulous Mel- she owns the eBay Shop Vintage Cartel. Without a doubt, this shop sells my favourite brands- Forever 21+, Torrid, Yours Clothing, Simply Be, ASOS Curve, New Look Inspire and sooooo many others! Now hold your breath for the best part- Mel also does open house sales where you can try on and choose your favourite items from her range of clothes, shoes and accessories! I was lucky enough to pop over to her house a few weeks ago and trawl through her amazing collection

Aussie Curves: Heels

Nothing makes me feel more fierce than a sexy pair of heels. I must admit that I'm still practicing the 'all day wear' but my shoe-stamina is getting better! I find that obviously, the higher the heel the less amount of time I can wear them comfortably. So when I discovered these wider fitting, Torrid platforms heels (read that as: 100% more comfy), I snapped them up in nude and black! This black patent look pair is still my favourite!

Heels: Torrid
Jacket: Forever 21+
Peplum: City Chic
Clutch: ASOS
Necklace: eBay

I'm loving the bold red and yellow with the stripes. I'm trying to limit my use of this blazer because I think it's too perfect- I want it to last as long as possible! Isn't that crazy!? It's like rarely using the 'good' silver cutlery set. Siigghhhh. I think I need a fashion-intervention!

This is my new favourite necklace- if you follow my Instagram feed (and if not, come on over, I'm much more fun there than here!), you would have seen I've already worn it out this week a few times! A statement piece like this is always such a fab investment. This particular beauty I actually bought on eBay! I'm going to do a proper post about my favorite eBay shops soon, so I can share all the goodies with you then!

How long do you comfortably last in a pair of heels??

Aussie Curves: Androgynous

I define my general style as pretty girly and feminine, so when this weeks androgynous theme came up, I was unsure what I was going to pull together. As it turns out, I had loads of fun bringing this outfit together and actually felt like a total babe while wearing it out!

Top: Lily and Lou via Big W
Pants: ASOS Curve
Blazer: Forever 21+
Bracelet and Clutch: Torrid
Wedges: Betts
Watch: eBay
Tie: Tweed River

The main kind of feel I was going for was a mix of structure and colour. The classic lines of the blazer and the pants are balanced out by feminine touches of colour and the relaxed fit top. And of course with my hair slicked back and the added tie, I feel like I'm channeling my inner lady-killer ;)

I adored these ASOS Curve floral peg trousers when I saw them online and I snapped them up the minute I could. I think its a real shame they are made from a jersey, in a tailored poly-blend material they would sit so much better. Albeit they are super comfy! I'm loving the bold print and the wa y they run into a skinny cut around the ankles. They also give a much more masculine shape than my usual jeans or pants.

In outfits like this, if I don't tuck my shirt in I feel like I'm getting lost under layers; plus I always feel sexiest when I'm tucked in! Overall, I'm really happy with the way it all ended up coming together and it definitely pushed me out of my usual (pink and frilly!) comfort zone.

How do you feel about the androgynous style??

OOTD: 'Weird and Creepy' outfit recycling

Last night we attended our mate Adam's 30th birthday party, themed 'creepy weird things'. After much debating on our costumes over the last few days we settled on the very creepy Mrs Lovett and Sweeney Todd. We picked up Ben's costume and my accessories from buycostumes.com and I think we both ended up looking the weird and creepy part.

'Zombie Prom' Birthday Party

My costume was actually just a jumble of bits and pieces I already had at home. I was wearing a long black tiered skirt from Autograph, a zippered black ruffle blouse from City Chic and over the top a rad lace up corset I picked up from Ebay. The corset was actually part of my 'zombie prom' outfit from my birthday this year- another equally creepy costume success! It was a great night and I got lots of compliments on my fake pie- complete with eyeballs, bones and intestines!

Ben and I had a very chilled day at home today- recovering from yesterday and attempting to do our tax. We headed out in the afternoon to catch a few of the last rays and pick up some wine for a lazy Sunday night in. I picked a comfy, cute outfit to spend the day in, the puff sleeve top is from City Chic and i'm wearing the same skirt from my costume last night!

Holy sunglasses Batman!

Last week I put my last payment on my new car Tori, a Nissan Micra (in pink of course!) YAYYYY!!. This jubilation was swiftly replaced as our next door neighbours backed into it the next day, bummer! Today I picked her up from the panel beaters and am super happy to see her shiny and perfect again!

I had forgotten what it was like to be without a car. Oh my goodness. I have no idea how I lived without one for so long. Tori was my first official car three years ago- and some mighty fine adventures we've had! :)

Ben's cousin is coming to stay with us tomorrow night so I basically spent that day dancing around the house dusting and putting stuff back where it was supposed to be. In the cleaning process I found NINE pairs of sunglasses! I swear I am always looking for a par and can never find any when I need them! I love the over sized frame and lens sunnies because they balance out my big head- and I always feel like a bit of a superstar in them. Check out this pink pair that turned up!

When Ben got home from work we went on a late night PO BOX pickup and a supermarket expedition. I love doing the big shop for the week and finding all sorts of weird stuff we have never tried before. I couldn't go past the box of Wiggle eggs tonight. I hope they are extra happy inside! Although I am mildly worried when I crack them they will pop out and start wiggling their thumbs at me.

I love this dress. It's so comfy and chilled. The navy colour and sailor like pattern on the bust is super cute and it falls really nice from below with four pleats over my tummy. I wanted this dress so much but it sold in store before I even had a chance to try it on! I ended up picking it up on ebay for something like $25- it was about $90 brand new! Awesome! Love the feeling of a coveted item at a bargain price. This is also my favourite jacket of the moment, a funky find in Kmart, in fact its so rad- I have two! :)
