OOTD: Deep South Saloon

Last weekend a girlfriend was visiting from interstate and planned a few events so we could all get together and catch up. Her invite said we were meeting for drinks at this swanky new saloon-like bar in town, so I knew I had to bring my A game outfit wise!

Dress: ASOS Curve
Belt: Forever 21+
Wedges: Betts
Earrings: Real Divas Are Large

Clutch: Thrifted

The bar in question was the totally funky Lefty's Old Time Music Hall on Caxton Street, it has such an amazing Old Western Saloon meets Deep South glamour feeling to it. The sultry notes from the rockabilly swing band drifted out the door as we waited in line to go inside. I can't remember the last time I waited in line for a club, was it really worth it Ben and I asked each other. But yes. It was pretty fabulous. With crystal chandeliers, red interiors and the wrap around staircases- the opulent surrounds make you feel like you've walked into a movie. Or maybe that was the killer whiskey menu? Either way, as I leaned over the mezzanine banisters looking for my friends, there was more than enough interesting views to distract me from my searching. I snapped a few phone-photos while we were there but the shadowed lighting didn't make for very clear images- I've nabbed these two from the internet to show you how fab it was inside.

These wedges have recently been added to my Betts shoe collection, I love the gorgeous bold purple and floral print that clashed so well with the red. I've had this swing dress sitting in my wardrobe for a while (I even took it to NYC for Full Figured Fashion Week a few years ago!) but I've always put it on and then changed my mind. I think one of my biggest issues is that the swing cut hides all of my shape, so I belted it up and am really happy with how it all ended up looking! The gorgeous sheer detailing above the bust is such an eye-catcher that accessory wise, I only added these Real Divas Are Large  clip-ons and that rocking gold clutch.

How would you wear this dress??

OOTD: Date night

This weekend flew by in another crazy blur and all of sudden it has disappeared. I didn't get to see much of Ben because I drove up to Gympie to stay at Suger's house and do some girly stuff- which included getting my makeup trial for the wedding! When I arrived home on Sunday night I made the most of my made up face for a date night out (we saw the new Captain America movie at the cinema, LOVED IT! And that man candy, mmmmmhmmm!)! And with a pretty face- you need a pretty dress!

Dress: c/o Yours Clothing
Belt: Forever 21+
Shoes: Payless
Facinator: Alannah Hill
Bag: BooHoo

This gorgeous flocked Peter Pan collar dress has been sitting in the front of my wardrobe for the last few weeks taunting me. I haven't had a chance to wear it and do it justice. But with my lovely makeup and a afternoon out on the cards, I knew it was perfect. Sure I was a little done up for the shops and the cinema (facinator and all), but I was loved up and dressed up!

I love the skater style, it hides a multitude of tummy sins and this dress holds that shape perfectly. It has a lovely little flare which gives that instant feminine look. I didn't want to accessorize too much, the dress is already such an eye-catching piece, it doesn't need it.  I added the pink pumps and clutch to set off the gorgeous colour. I loved the clash of the pink, purple and coral together, the dress is so vibrant and even after washing, maintains that fabulous bold coral.

Do you colour clash??

OOTD: Brisbane Alternative Expo

Ben and I attended The Brisbane Alternative Expo on the weekend- a fabulous geeky explosion of local steam punk, Gothic, comic book and rockabilly goodness! A friend of ours owns an airbrushing company and invited us to go check out the expo last year. We had the best time and I discovered some amazing plus-size brands in the process (Including Geek Girl Collective- these babes ROCK!!)- so I was super excited to get amongst it all again this year!

Dress and Blazer: City Chic
Flatforms: Betts
Necklace and Belt: Forever 21

Sunnies: eQuip

The expo was also the perfect opportunity to rock these totally awesome platforms that I picked up in in the Betts Shoes sale. A big chunky form with funky thick cage toes- I knew they would fit in well with all the dressed-to-the-nines steampunk babes at the event!

I loved the way the purple geometric jacket looks with the black and white. These City Chic tunic dresses are so easy to wear and style up (I already have three in different prints- isn't that ridiculous?!), but it was just that little bit too short for all the bending over I had planned to be doing at the expo. I added my favourite We Love Colors stockings to prevent butt flashing- dude, these stockings are the best!
Lastly I added basic accessories with a 'satche and the metallic belt to match the jacket and I was ready to go Geek it up!

It was pretty hot inside the hall where the expo was held, so my jacket came off pretty fast. But by the time I'd done a loop around the stalls, I'd swapped the blazer for a moustache hair scarf, a dragon tattoo and a skull cameo brooch- awesomeness! AND! I've commissioned a totally rad moustache print fit and flare skirt! I cannot wait to show you all!

What do you think of geometric prints and colour??

OOTD: Horses and Paris

There is something awesome about a mini-skirt. I always feel flirty and super girly in them. It might also be that its a total flaunting disregard for all the stupid 'rules' about what fat girls should wear and that feels pretty fabulous too.

Skirt: eShakti
Top: Forever 21+
Flats: Rubi
Clutch: Thrifted
Necklace: Colette

Ben and I went out with some friends on Saturday night for dinner and drinks. The temperature is just at that in between stage, cool enough for stockings, but warm enough to have bare arms. This is my favourite time of year.

I love the way the sequins catch the light and play off the red flats. Even though they are juts plain, the colour is so bright they always feel like ruby slippers.

The necklace I picked up in the Colette sales. For $8.50 with 50% off all jewelry, I couldn't resist! The cord with metal details is so easy to wear, I've already styled it into several outfits. It just seems to go with everything! Its easy to buy too much dress jewelry (I'm a definite victim of sale-spontaneity) but I'm trying to pick pieces like this I will get more wear out of.

Seriously though. How adorable is the skirt. I love that eShakti is fully customizable, this was originally a past the knee length, but I knew it would be too cute as a mini! The moment I slipped it on I loved it. From the funky print to the metal look buttons, it was perfect. Funnily enough, it was one of those pieces that got lost in my wardrobe. Its just been rediscovered and rotated to the front!

What do you wear in between seasons?

Aussie Curves: Active Wear

Okay. So I guess I've essentially cheated with this weeks Aussie Curves. I'm definitely taking the theme to the edges of its meaning but the funny thing about active wear, is that although I have tights and comfy tees I wear while working up a sweat- more often than not, I end up hitting the pavement in my everyday clothes.

Top: Forever 21+
Jeans: Torrid
Jacket: Crossroads
Thongs: Crocs

On this particular day, I'd come home from the shops to a raucously excited puppy! Seeing her joyful little furry self bouncing up and down just makes me melt. That and this unbelievable choc-chip-cookie stare she does as I take me shoes off near where her walking lead hangs. So I sigh and put my shoes back on, grab her harness and ball and head back out the door with her gleefully taking the lead. This means I end up hitting the park in whatever I happen to be wearing before. Now, if it's something swishy, long, cotoure or ridiculous then I'll change- but if it's jeans and a top or a leggings and a tunic getup, I'm out the door without hesitation.

I think the most important thing is that you want to be comfortable and have good range of movement. I've found myself wearing jeans a lot lately. Which is funny- because before blogging I was never a jeans wearer. I think that finding my perfect pair has definitely changed my jeans opinion- Torrid really do make the BEST jeans! Plus, Neo likes it when I wear them because she doesn't have to wait for me to change before we go for a walk! ;)

As you can see from these piccys, Neo cannot get enough of the park. From the minute we step out the door until her final collapse on the couch when we get home- she gives it all her energy! I love throwing the ball around for her and running her through the agility obstacles. Sometimes it's the little things like this that make for the best afternoons.

Does your pet love the park?
